Cambodia's PM reaffirms support for Khmer Rouge trial

British foreign office minister Ian Pearson has met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to discuss a trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders.

Mr Pearson says the premier told him he wants to push ahead with a UN-backed trial of ex-Khmer Rouge leaders, for which funding and staffing is being finalised.

Britain is contributing towards the expense of the trial which is expected to cost 56 million US dollars.

Pol Pot's 1975-79 Khmer Rouge regime is held responsible for the deaths of up to two million Cambodians, but no surviving leader has ever faced justice.
